Dr. Bronwin Van Wyk

Dr. Bronwin Van Wyk is currently joint-appointed at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital and Sefako Makgatho University in South Africa as a deputy director in medical physics. He has 16 years’ experience as a medical physicist post 2 years internship and holds a PhD in the field. Bronwin is accredited by the Health Professions Council of South Africa, and has been appointed chair of the education and training committee of the Federation of African Medical Physicists Organization. He is an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expert in the field of medical physics. To date Bronwin has attended numerous international medical physics training courses, published several peer review manuscripts and presented at congresses both locally and internationally. Bronwin has a book publication of his Master’s thesis and is currently busy with a Human Health Series publication for the IAEA as an African expert. Bronwin’s research interests are dosimetry and quality assurance in medical physics. He has supervised medical physics internships, honours, masters and PhD students. Bronwin is passionate about giving back in the field of medical physics. He has played a key role in establishing the Gauteng medical physics forum of South Africa, which led to the establishment of intern medical physics posts. He is married with two boys that adore soccer, Liverpool FC being the family’s favourite team, “go you reds – you will never walk alone”.
